Keeping your indoor active is as important to your dog as keeping yourself active is important to your well being
In some parts of our country where your dog can not play outside due to bad weather it is imperative you keep your dog active for it to maintain good health. If you dog is not active they will gain weight and be prone to poor health. In this article I will give you some tips for activities you can do in your house with your dog to keep them active. Your home has stairs that you can throw the ball down the stairs and have your dog fetch it. If there are no steps a long corridor can work. If you use a tennis ball it keeps damage and noise down to a minimum. If you just chase your dog around the house that is good exercise for both you and your dog. It gets you up and off the sofa. You dog will really enjoy this. Tug of war is a good exercise to do with your dog in the house. Let them grab onto one end of the rope then you grab the other end and pull. Most dogs love this, especially larger dogs. It gives them a good workout. Let your dog grab on to one of their toys and then you try to pull it out of there mouth. They think this is a real great game. Once you start doing this with your dog they will continually be bringing you their toy to play. Nothing replaces a good walk or run for your dog but when they can't be outside getting the proper exercise make sure you are playing with them inside to keep them active and healthy. |
