If you have a dog that barks a great deal you must first decide why your dog barks so much



. Some dogs bark because they don't like being left alone, others bark for attention. If you follw some of the steps below hopefully you will have some success quieting your dog down.

First, Words don't mean much to animals, it is how you say them that matters. Don't make a big deal when you leave your dog, and don't over excite them when you return. It is best to maintain a calm.

Second, Hold praise for your dog until it is earned. Praise him only when he has responded to a command. This will help him to understand when he is doing the right thing. He needs the positive reinforcement so he learns from you.

Third, Get some chew toys, for your dog. Then leave the room. When you return to the room, don't make a big deal of it to your dog. He will get use to you leaving and returning. This will make him more aware when he is doing well and he will be better trained.

Fourth, allow a little extra time before you leave your dog, do some things around the house ignoring your dog. Then quickly slip out not making a big deal about your leaving your dog.

Lastly, while you are gone, make sure you leave chew toys and doggy bones for them to chew on. A content happy, not bored dog, tends not to bark as much.
